OldLocation

Our original location was in three row houses at 2647 N. Charles Street. Today, we are located in a five-story office building at the corner of Charles and 23rd Streets.

The North Baltimore Center sign and garden in front of the building were dedicated in memory of Dr. Bob Lloyd, Co-Founder of the agency, on July 1, 2008.

Serving the People of Baltimore
Since 1969

The North Baltimore Center was founded by a group of prominent civic leaders who envisioned the need for comprehensive behavioral health services in Baltimore. These included:

In July 2005, NBC became an affiliate of the Sheppard & Enoch Pratt Foundation and a part of the Sheppard Pratt Health System, one of the top 10 mental health systems in the U.S. On July 1, 2010, NBC became part of Mosaic Community Services, Inc., another Sheppard Pratt affiliate.

More History

Our original name was the North Central Community Mental Health and Alcoholism Center. Over the next 37 years as the focus of mental health services shifted, our name was changed to the North Baltimore Center and alcoholism treatment was discontinued. In July of 2008, we returned to our original mission by adding Partners in Recovery to our program services. We now offer comprehensive behavioral health services from day treatment to an outpatient mental health clinic, substance abuse treatment, hospitalization prevention, employment, housing, in-home family therapy, in-school therapy and violence prevention training in the Baltimore City Public Schools.

Clients are referred to us by the House of Ruth, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Mobile Treatment, People Empowering People, People’s Community Health Centers, Project PLASE, Spring Grove Hospital Center, Springfield Hospital Center, Sheppard Pratt Health System, Union Memorial Hospital, the University of Maryland Medical Systems and the Women’s Housing Coalition, among other organizations.

Although NBC is an affiliate of Sheppard Pratt, it is a separate, nonprofit organization in its operations and funding.
